📊 Global Commodity Futures - Sept 5th

Energy:

  • Brent Crude (Oct ’25): $66.77/bbl ▼ OPEC+ hinting at more supply has oil on the back foot.

  • WTI Crude (Oct ’25): $63.29/bbl ▼ Weak inventories aren’t helping bulls.

  • Nat Gas (Oct ’25): $3.11/MMBtu ▲ Demand + LNG flows keep gas hot.

Metals:

  • Gold (Oct ’25): $3,600+/oz ▲ Record-setting momentum, thanks Fed cut chatter.

  • Gold (Nov ’25): $3,610/oz ▲ Macro risk premium alive and well.

Grains & Oilseeds:

  • Corn (Dec ’25): $4.23/bu ▲ Slight rebound, but demand is the driver.

  • Soybeans (Nov ’25): $10.31½/bu ▲ Mild bounce, still weighed by big supply.

  • Wheat (Dec ’25): $5.17–5.28/bu ▼ Hanging near lows — no spark yet.

  • Canola (Nov ’25): C$630.30/tonne ▲ A bounce, but fragile with tariffs looming.

Livestock:

  • Live Cattle (Oct ’25): $236.95/cwt ▼ Cash trade softer.

  • Feeder Cattle (Nov ’25): $358.07/cwt ▼ Pulled down by feed/demand balance.

🔍 Takeaways:

  • Oil: Bearish tilt until OPEC+ blinks.

  • Gold: Dips are buyable; safe-haven demand still strong.

  • Grains: Corn firm, soy & wheat cautious, canola still under trade pressure.

  • Livestock: Weak tone in cattle & hogs; margins driving near-term action.

TRENDS

📈 The Bulls and 📉 The Bears

📈 Global Food Prices on the RiseThe FAO Food Price Index climbed to 130.1 in August—its highest since early 2023. Meat, sugar, and vegetable oils led the climb (palm oil boosted by Indonesia’s biodiesel push)—as cereal and dairy prices tacked lower.

📉 Grain Markets Sinking on Supply OverflowWheat markets are sliding into fresh contract lows, with ample global supply and ongoing harvest pressure putting downward pressure on prices. Corn thrives on buyers, but soybeans remain dull without new Chinese demand or a deal in sight.

📉 Funds Neutralizing Aggressive Grain BetsCFTC data shows ag speculators trimming bearish bets—especially in soybeans—after a strong run of selling. Funds are now just a modest 17,000 contracts net short, dialing back volatility potential.

SHARP TAKE

🧬 New Canola Rescue: Clubroot Resistance Breakthrough Confirmed

NRGene Green just dropped a game-changer: their September 4, 2025 field trials showed zero clubroot infection across advanced canola lines—even under heavy pathogen pressure—while current “resistant” hybrids were slammed with 74–85% infection rates

Here’s what makes it big:

  • The resistance is naturally bred—not GMO—spotted using AI-powered genomics and stabilized into elite spring and winter canola backgrounds.

  • It hits 100% resistance in donor lines, with hybrid versions leaking only 0.2% infection, and stabilized breeding lines staying below 1% infection.

  • Markers are ready for quick breeding integration, and NRGene Green is already licensing traits to seed companies with a royalty model

TL;DR

NRGene Green delivers canola lines with total immunity to clubroot—leaving older “resistant” varieties in the dust. The trait is non-GMO, patent-backed, and ready to plug into commercial breeding. Watch for rollout in seed catalogs soon.
